HF/6m transmitter with a MOSFET PA delivering 200W output at full duty cycle
A top of the line transceiver with ultimate receiver performance

The new IC-7700 is a self-contained, top-performance HF/6m transceiver closely related to its "bigger brother", the IC-7800. Its main features are:

  • Two independent DSP units (of the same type used in the IC-7800).
One DSP is dedicated to the transmitter and receiver, and the other to the spectrum scope
  • Quiet, built-in switch-mode mains power supply.
  • Single HF receiver with I/Q second mixer, offering +40dBm 3rd-order intercept point.
The single receiver should be seen not as a disadvantage, but as a plus. The single receiver allows no-compromise RX performance at a reasonable price; BNC sockets on the rear panel, and CI-V, allow easy connection and synchronization of a second Icom transceiver such as the 756Pro3 as a secondary receiver. Many prospective IC-7700 buyers already own an IC-756Pro3. Add the IC-7700 to your existing Pro3 for the perfect contest station; use the IC-7700 as your main transceiver, and the IC-756Pro3 as a spotting receiver.
Upgrade from your IC-765 or IC-775DSP, and get the benefits of a spectrum scope
  • Built-in automatic tracking RF preselector.
The built-in tracking preselector, and relay-switched front end, offer unrivalled strong-signal HF performance.
  • Built-in high-speed automatic antenna tuner.
The tuner covers the HF and 6m bands.
  • Selectable 15, 6 and 3 kHz roofing filters.
    As provided in the IC-7800
  • Precision OCXO with ±0.05ppm frequency stability and 10 MHz Reference I/O jack.
The precision OCXO with 10 MHz REF I/O allows the IC-7700 to clock other equipment, or to be clocked from a higher-level master clock source.
  • 7" color TFT LCD display.
The display includes a simulated analogue multi-function meter.
Rear-panel VGA socket for external video monitor
  • Multi-function spectrum scope with adjustable resolution bandwidth (RBW).
The adjustable RBW permits spectral analysis of received signals. IMD products and spurs can be displayed.
  • Built-in RTTY/PSK31 modem requiring only a USB keyboard.
The built-in RTTY/PSK31 modem allows use of the IC-7700 as a complete digimode terminal, requiring only a keyboard. This is great for semi-portable operation (e.g. Field Day) or when shack space is at a premium.
  • IF-DSP notch filter with adjustable parameters.
The notch filter shape factor is selectable in 3 steps, and its maximum stopband attenuation is 70 dB.
  • Multi-function noise blanker implemented in DSP.
  • Separate, high-performance 6m receiver front end.
  • Digital voice recorder.
  • Front -panel USB ports for USB memory drive and keyboard.
The USB memory drive socket permits use of pocket USB memory drives. No CF card is required.

Taking the Excitement of the Chase to New Heights

+40dBm ultra high intercept point
By sparing no expense throughout the signal chain, Icom has developed an amateur rig that challenges the performance of any “Military Grade” transceiver. You ’ll enjoy a +40dBm* 3rd order intercept point and ultra wide dynamic range that is, like its IC-7800 “big brother”, amateur radio’s highest. The IC-7700 continues Icom’s setting of the bench mark for HF transceivers. Examples include the use of mechanical relays instead of non-linear semi-conductors and high performance DMOS mixers with a high-drive Local Oscillator. Using only two IF stages and Icom’s image rejection technology, enables the IC-7700 to clearly reproduce very weak signals as well as very strong signals without distortion. *
HF bands.

3kHz roofing filter
In addition to the 6kHz and 15kHz roofing filters, the IC-7700 has a 3kHz roofing filter before the 1st amplifier. It provides superior blocking dynamic range and allows you to pull out a weak signal while blocking strong adjacent signal.

DIGI-SEL (Digital pre-selector) function
The DIGI-SEL function rejects unwanted suppression by out-of-pass band interference at the primary stage of signal processing. It is useful to reject unwanted out of band interference from multi-multi operation or strong broadcast stations. Within the HF bands, the DIGI-SEL automatically tracks the intended signal at a minimum of 2 kHz steps keeping the pre-selector’s bandwidth centered on the operating frequency. The DIGI-SEL has a sharp-pointed very narrow peak characteristic in the pass band. Together with the band pass filter it greatly attenuates out of the pass band. This combination reduces 2nd, 3rd and even higher order IMD components immensely. The center frequency of the pre-selector is manually adjustable from the DIGI-SEL tuning knob on the front panel.

Pre-amplifiers
The IC-7700 has a total of 4 pre-amplifiers, two for the HF bands and two for the 50MHz band. The purpose of pre-amplifiers is to improve receiver sensitivity; for the pursuit of higher gain and a better noise figure. The IC-7700 employs a noiseless feedback design with push-pull amplifiers. Using feedback transformers, the pre-amplifiers provide a high IP3 while keeping a low noise figure.

High stability OCXO unit
The frequency control of these circuits is done by the high stability Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator unit. This OCXO unit has ±0.05ppm high stability on the basis of temperature. That means that within the specified temperature range, the frequency will deviate only 5Hz out of every 100 million Hz! This specification is equivalent to that specialized measuring equipment. Also, a 10MHz reference frequency can be the input/output for external equipment.

4 antenna connectors
The IC-7700 has 4 antenna connectors (ANT1 to ANT4) with an automatic antenna selector. Once you program the operating band to the antenna memory, the antenna memory automatically selects the antenna as you change the operating band. Each antenna can be set to the antenna usage type such as for Tx/Rx use, Rx only* use and off line. The antenna switch button allows you to change operating antenna temporarily.
* Rx setting is available for ANT4 only.

Digital IF filter
When receiving a weak signal buried between adjacent channels, the DSP-based digital IF filter shows its superior filtering performance. Depending on the operating situation, for example handling a pile-up, or receiving a very weak signal, you can flexibly change sharp and soft filter shapes or narrow or shift the filter width, even while actually receiving a signal.

Digital twin PBT
The DSP-based digital IF filter of the IC-7700 blocks out signals out of the pass band, and keeps the in-band signal free of any distortion or depletion in quality. In addition, sharp and soft filter shapes are selectable. You get the signal reproduction you like to hear. The digital twin PBT eliminates interference and noise from the upper and lower sides by changing the IF filter bandwidth. The IF shift function allows you to shift or move the IF pass band from either side to hear the actual signal. The passband width, shift direction and steps (50Hz) are graphically displayed on the LCD.

Noise reduction
The 32-bit floating point DSP has excellent calculation performance, which processes complex and sophisticated algorithms. This allows the DSP to attenuate noise without delay and extracts noise-level signals. It is possible to vary the suppression level in 16 stages.

Variable noise blanker
The noise blanker provides significant reduction of pulse-type noise. The noise blanker allows the operator to change the threshold level as well as blank time parameter and attenuation level.

S/P DIF interface
The IC-7700 has the S/P DIF optical digital interface for audio output and modulation input. By connecting an external device* through a connection cable, flexible audio tuning is possible, while keeping good sound quality.

* Third party connection cable, PC with S/P DIF supported sound board and software are required.

Two 32-bit floating point units
Two independent DSP units (of the same type used in the IC-7800) are built-in: One for the transmitter and receiver; and one for the spectrum scope. The IC-7700 expands on the phenomenal performance of the 32-bit DSP that Icom introduced to the amateur world.

Automatic tracking pre-selector
As your first line of defense against interfering signals, the pre-selector rejects unwanted out of band interference from multi-multi operation or strong broadcast stations. The 7700’s pre-selector automatically tracks the intended signal, keeping the pre-selector’s bandwidth centered on the operating frequency.

200W output power at full duty
The push-pull power amplifiers using power MOS-FETs work on 48V DC. They provide a powerful 200W output power at full duty cycle and low transmit intermodulation. An effective cooling system maintains internal temperatures within a safe range and prevents thermal runaway.

Ultra high frequency stability
Your IC-7700 shares the IC-7800’s standard stability of ±0.05ppm! Even on 6m band, that is less than 3Hz error from the Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator! Also, a 10MHz reference frequency can be input/output for external equipment.

7-inch wide color TFT LCD
Contesting is often a marathon sport. Be kind to your eyes! The large 7-inch wide (800×480 pixels) color display has to be seen to be believed! A high linearity needle S-meter, multi-function spectrum scope and RTTY/PSK31 messages are displayed in vivid color. In addition, the IC-7700 has a VGA connector allowing you to connect an external monitor.

Multi function spectrum scope
With the dedicated DSP unit, the spectrum scope offers linearity, accuracy and resolution. By adjusting the scope selectivity, the spectrum scope allows you to find those weak signals right next to strong ones! With this ground breaking scope, you can even monitor the distortion or width of the received signals. In addition, the scope range can be set independently from the receiving frequency. You can monitor the band condition between the selected sweep edges, as well as sweep a selected band width centered on the receiving frequency in the scope screen.

RTTY /PSK31 operation without PC connection
The IC-7700 has a modulator and demodulator for the 2 major HF amateur digital modes. It is possible to encode and decode PSK31 as well as baudot RTTY signals by simply connecting a USB keyboard to the IC-7700. You no longer need to connect a PC for RTTY/PSK31 operation. In addition, transmitted and received messages can be stored to a USB memory device and transferred to your PC.

IF notch filter with adjustable notch filter characteristics
The IC-7700’s DSP controlled manual notch filter shape can be set in 3-steps for the various receiving conditions. The filter shape of the manual notch can be adjusted in three steps, with more than 70dB of attenuation!

Professional 6m receiver
While most HF/50MHz transceivers share the preamp between the HF bands and 50MHz band, the IC-7700 uses an exclusive preamp and mixer especially for 50MHz. This preamp and mixer are tuned to the 50MHz band and improve cross modulation characteristics, particularly important when picking up a very weak signal near a strong station.

Digital Voice Recorder
The Digital Voice Recorder (DVR) is a convenient function for contests, DXpeditions, field day and even normal operation. Record your callsign, CQ, or other station information into a memory. Independent “Rec” and “Play” buttons are on the front panel.

USB ports in the front panel:
1 port for USB memory drive
1 port for USB keyboard

Microphone equalizer and adjustable transmit bandwidth
The built-in audio equalizer has the separate bass and treble adjustment for a total of 121 combinations, so you can tone your voice up or down as you want. In addition, the transmit bandwidth is selectable from 100, 200, 300, 500Hz at the low-pass edge, and 2500, 2700, 2800, 2900Hz at the high-pass edge respectively. 3 types of high and low combinations can be stored in the memory as favorite settings. With this flexibility of DSP based waveform shaping, transmit audio quality is adjustable to your preference.

Memory keyer
The IC-7700's memory keyer has 4 channels with 55 characters for CW, 8 channels with 70 characters for RTTY and 8 channels with 70 characters for PSK31 operation. The memory keyer is convenient for programming station information, calling CQ and call sign for a DX-pedition or contest. Also, the CW memory keyer has other time saving functions such as automatic repeat, serial contest number auto-counter, and morse cut number functions.
